Noma Security Raises $100 Million to Enhance AI Model Protection
Noma Security, a startup founded by a former manager at Verint, has successfully secured $100 million in funding to enhance the security and governance of agentic AI systems. The New York-based startup aims to address the increasing enterprise adoption of these technologies, which enable AI models and agents to operate autonomously.
According to Noma’s co-founder and CEO, Niv Braun, the recent Series B funding will significantly bolster the company’s capabilities in governance, risk management, and runtime protection for AI systems. This investment is crucial as organizations grapple with the implications of AI that can execute decisions independently.
The demand for Noma’s technology has surged, particularly in industries prioritizing security. A major pharmaceutical client deployed the company’s solutions within a month—an unprecedented timeframe, demonstrating the growing urgency in the market. The funding, guided by Evolution Equity, will primarily focus on scaling research and development efforts and expanding global sales operations.
Braun noted that while many startups begin with niche offerings, Noma adopted an integrated platform strategy from inception. This architecture is designed to address not just the discovery of AI models but also their governance and risk management, a critical aspect as the technology evolves.
As AI agents become more common, Noma has adapted its services to include agent-specific discovery and behavior analysis, addressing new security challenges. Braun emphasized that while AI models previously responded only to prompts, agents can now autonomously perform tasks, raising the stakes for potential security breaches.
Historically, security solutions have been reactive, often led by Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs). However, Noma is now being approached by Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief AI Officers. These executives recognize the need for robust security measures in order to fully leverage the capabilities of agentic AI, particularly within large organizations.
The company plans to expand its workforce with a dedicated team in the U.S. focused on market operations, including sales and customer success. This strategic move is essential to meet growing demand and ensure clients can adapt to the new landscape of AI technologies securely.
Though competitors like Protect AI have established themselves in the AI security market, Noma aims to differentiate itself through its comprehensive architectural approach. Rather than relying solely on traditional application security tools, Noma integrates with various cloud and AI platforms, enabling a broader range of functionalities.
With the escalation of AI-based activities, the threats posed are becoming increasingly sophisticated. The potential tactics involved in attacks on such systems could include techniques from the MITRE ATT&CK framework, such as initial access through exploiting vulnerabilities, as well as persistence and privilege escalation, raising alarms for businesses as they navigate this evolving risk landscape.
