ISC2 CISO Jon France Discusses the Importance of Quantum Resilience for CISOs
As quantum computing advances, it presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in relation to traditional asymmetric encryption. This evolution has intensified the need for ‘crypto agility,’ highlighting the importance of knowing where various encryption methods are deployed and maintaining the ability to swiftly adapt libraries in anticipation of future shifts.
The initial set of five quantum-safe algorithms has been released, necessitating that developers integrate these solutions to effectively transition from legacy systems. While the theoretical groundwork has been laid, the pace at which we address future risks hinges on technological advancements that resolve current engineering and physics barriers to creating sufficiently powerful quantum processors.
Jon France, ISC2’s CISO, elaborates on the importance of these developments, stating, “In the realm of quantum, the challenge lies not only in the physical engineering of qubits but also in leveraging the forthcoming software and algorithms that will capitalize on quantum properties, enabling us to tackle large datasets and complex problem-solving tasks.”
In a recent video interview with Information Security Media Group during the RSAC Conference 2025, France discussed various critical topics such as overcoming the challenges associated with heat error correction, recent improvements in quantum computational capabilities, and the initiatives undertaken by ISC2’s quantum task force focused on the implications for security professionals.
France’s background includes over 25 years in building and leading diverse teams in technology and security, where he has been instrumental in developing strategies that empower stakeholders while managing risk effectively. Currently, he is responsible for safeguarding ISC2 and advocating for advances in security and risk management practices, along with the skills necessary for a rapidly evolving landscape. Before his tenure at ISC2, France led security efforts at GSMA, underscoring his extensive experience in the field.
