Internet Intelligence Platform Aims to Enhance Real-Time Cyber Threat Mitigation

An internet intelligence provider, spearheaded by a Stanford assistant professor, has secured $70 million in funding to equip security teams with enhanced automation and decision-making capabilities at scale. The funding, comprising a $40 million Series D investment alongside $30 million in debt financing, will empower Censys, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to deliver critical insights into organizational infrastructures, supply chains, and adversarial behaviors through comprehensive internet intelligence. Co-founder and CEO Zakir Durumeric noted that the lack of contextual awareness can lead to incomplete or erroneous security judgments driven by AI.
Durumeric remarked, “For years, we’ve seen top-tier teams utilize this vast array of data to gain insights about themselves, their supply chains, and their adversaries, enabling them to implement proactive online defenses.” Founded in 2017, Censys currently employs 166 people and has amassed a total of $198 million in funding, following a previous raise of $75 million in October 2023. Durumeric, who has led the company since fall 2025 and held the position of chief scientist previously, emphasizes the need for intuitive intelligence integrated into security processes for broader organizational use.
Transforming Internet Data into Effective Security Measures
Censys is evolving from its historical focus on supplying intricate visibility to elite security teams capable of interpreting raw data. Durumeric points out that the goal is now to embed actionable intelligence directly into operational workflows to enhance usability for a wider range of organizations. He stated, “Our primary objective is to empower the next generation of security solutions with precise, real-time intelligence to facilitate quick triage and prioritization of threats.”
The rapid pace at which attackers automate reconnaissance and exploit vulnerabilities has compressed the window of opportunity for defenders, necessitating an automated, real-time approach to security. Durumeric warned that traditional methods of vulnerability management will not suffice, emphasizing that attackers are increasingly leveraging AI to innovate their tactics, which significantly escalates the stakes for organizations.
He asserts, “We need to embrace real-time, automated security solutions; the days of manual system analysis and prioritization are swiftly diminishing. Organizations must employ continuous monitoring, rapid threat prioritization, and automated responses.” The emergence of AI in cybersecurity processes presents exciting potential to streamline and enhance organizational defenses against increasingly sophisticated attacks.
Navigating Challenges in Environmental Awareness
Understanding their own networks remains a longstanding challenge for many organizations, which often struggle with asset identification, exposure, and vulnerabilities. With infrastructures increasingly scattered across various cloud environments, businesses face a vast and fragmented attack surface that is challenging to secure. Durumeric noted, “Protecting the infrastructure is paramount; it is the primary target for attackers.”
Traditional threat intelligence methodologies have predominantly been reactive, focusing on past events and post-incident indicators, an approach that suffices no longer in the current threat landscape. Censys’ proactive posture seeks to identify adversarial infrastructure before it is deployed during attacks, analyzing patterns and behaviors to spot malicious activity in its preparatory stages.
Durumeric also emphasized the need for organizations to connect the dots between attacker behaviors and actionable defense strategies, enabling swift actions like blocking malicious IPs and patching vulnerable systems. He expressed confidence in Censys’s unique positioning within the infrastructure intelligence landscape, asserting, “Few other providers are offering the type of comprehensive insights that we deliver.”
