CEO Amir Ben-Efraim: Acquisition Incorporates AI-Driven File Sanitization into Browser Tools
Menlo Security has fortified its cybersecurity framework by acquiring Votiro, a move that addresses critical challenges concerning file sanitization and preventing data leaks, according to CEO Amir Ben-Efraim. The acquisition, completed in February, aligns with the growing need for enhanced security measures in business environments.
Votiro’s technology excels at identifying sensitive data across more than 200 file formats, including hidden data within images. This capability significantly enhances Menlo’s strategy aimed at preventing data loss at the browser level, effectively sanitizing files downloaded from webmail or cloud applications. Transitioning from an API-based system to a policy-centric approach empowers clients to create, manage, and enforce consistent protocols regarding both file management and data security.
“Votiro specializes in file and data security, initiating with file sanitization—removing potential malware, ransomware, and harmful components from files to ensure delivery of verified clean files,” Ben-Efraim remarked. “Given that many individuals are constantly interacting with files, the importance of ensuring those files are sanitized across various applications cannot be overstated.”
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Ben-Efraim elaborated on how adversaries are increasingly leveraging generative AI for scams and impersonation attempts. He also differentiated between various browser strategies, stressing the impact of manipulative prompts designed to deceive users into confirming their identities.
Ben-Efraim co-founded Menlo Security in 2013, drawing from his extensive background in cloud security at Juniper Networks, where he shaped strategies for securing virtualized and hybrid cloud environments. His prior experience includes leading Altor Networks, acquired by Juniper, and holding an executive role at Check Point Software from 2004 to 2007.
