SailPoint’s Acquisition of Imprivata Enhances Healthcare Security Offerings Worldwide
SailPoint Technologies has announced plans to acquire Imprivata’s identity governance business, a move aimed at enhancing identity security and enterprise access management across healthcare organizations globally. The Austin, Texas-based company stated that this acquisition is particularly significant for addressing the security requirements of the healthcare sector in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, while also ramping up capabilities for existing Imprivata clients in managing machine identities and non-human entities.
Matt Mills, President of SailPoint, emphasized the company’s intention to leverage artificial intelligence and unified data models to meet the increasing complexities within enterprises, shedding light on the importance of an integrated identity governance solution. Mills remarked, “For current customers and potential prospects alike, this best-in-class identity governance solution will facilitate the management of complexities at scale and ensure seamless integration with their enterprise access management systems.” This promises enhanced operational efficiency for a growing array of users.
Transitioning Imprivata Customers to SailPoint
According to Mills, existing Imprivata clients will be given a three-year window to migrate to SailPoint’s identity security cloud. Both companies share common ownership under Thoma Bravo, a factor Mills believes will help maintain continuity for customers during the transition. This acquisition bolsters SailPoint’s position in the healthcare market, which demands specialized security solutions due to stringent regulatory requirements and operational intricacies.
“The support teams formerly backing these customers at Imprivata are now part of SailPoint,” Mills noted. The process will be individualized as SailPoint engages with clients to tailor migration strategies to their specific conditions, recognizing that healthcare environments encounter unique challenges, from compliance issues to varied access needs for personnel.
As Mills elaborated, healthcare organizations are increasingly grappling with the integration of traditional cybersecurity measures with modern identity management. “They must navigate how to blend conventional solutions, such as those from CrowdStrike and Palo Alto, with identity security frameworks,” he explained, emphasizing SailPoint’s commitment to delivering comprehensive solutions in an evolving digital landscape.
In addressing the complex nature of identity governance in large healthcare settings, the incorporation of AI and unified data models is central to SailPoint’s strategy. The firm is working to expand existing functionalities with platforms like Epic, utilizing its Atlas platform to consolidate data management across numerous applications while advancing security and compliance protocols.
The deal is part of SailPoint’s broader strategy to facilitate global expansion, particularly through Imprivata’s existing international presence. While the U.S. leads in identity governance adoption, European firms are catching up in sophistication, and SailPoint aims to tailor solutions that meet regional demands. Mills indicated that the complexity observed in the U.S. market is similar to expectations in Europe, emphasizing the need for advanced solutions that cater to a diverse range of security requirements.
The acquisition is SailPoint’s third since its privatization by Thoma Bravo, following the purchases of privileged access management firm Osirium and third-party identity risk startup SecZetta. Mills underscored the strategic alignment required in acquisitions, stating that potential targets are evaluated based on their ability to expedite market entry and fulfill customer needs while aligning with SailPoint’s long-term business objectives.
