In a decisive crackdown named “Operation Red Card,” Interpol has arrested more than 300 suspects linked to cyber assaults impacting both public and private sectors across Africa. The detained individuals are alleged to have engaged in a variety of cyber offenses, such as mobile banking fraud, investment scams, messaging app deception, cryptocurrency fraud, and espionage.
This strategic operation was executed in partnership with the South African government, significantly bolstered by intelligence contributions from Kaspersky. Authorities have also confiscated over 1,900 electronic devices and approximately 240 domain names in conjunction with the arrests.
