Series D Funding to Propel U.S. Growth and AI Innovation in Cybersecurity

Pentera, a security validation company founded by a former Israel Defense Forces captain, has successfully raised $60 million in Series D funding, positioning the firm for accelerated growth in the U.S. marketplace and enhancing its cloud penetration strategies.

According to CEO Amitai Ratzon, this venture capital infusion will facilitate greater interoperability with leading cloud service providers and leverage artificial intelligence to engage more effectively with varied business stakeholders. While Pentera isn’t in dire need of funds, Ratzon emphasizes that this capital will enable substantial advancements in research and development, particularly focusing on AI-enhanced security validation.
“We’re not in a cash-strapped situation,” Ratzon stated. “Our efficiency has been notable—we have been developing a global sales and marketing framework over the years. Quietude in fundraising has characterized our recent three years as we concentrate on operational excellence.”
Distinctive Investment Terms from Evolution Equity Partners
Founded in 2015, Pentera has grown its workforce to 410 employees and secured a total of $250 million in funding, with its previous Series C round generating $150 million in January 2022, spearheaded by K1 Investment Management. Under Ratzon’s leadership since January 2018—following four years of military service in Israel—Pentera has focused on sharing risks with investors in an economic climate where structured deals are prevalent, thereby differentiating itself from competitors.
“We weren’t actively seeking additional funding, it must be noted,” Ratzon mentioned. “However, Evolution Equity Partners, our latest investor, expressed a desire to lead and had recently raised a $1.1 billion fund.”
Ratzon highlights the advantage of having Evolution’s team, which brings hands-on experience to the organization, offering operational insights, strategic guidance, and invaluable industry connections—critical in the cybersecurity landscape that Pentera operates in.
Utilization of Series D Funding
A significant portion of the Series D investment will be allocated to enhancing Pentera’s AI-driven attack simulations and automation functionalities, aiming to refine attack sophistication and thereby elevate the efficacy of security validation. Additionally, the deployment of generative AI will aim to translate technical security insights into common business language, empowering executives to grasp security risks without needing a profound technical background.
“The new capital will be crucial for maintaining and progressing our platform, particularly as we integrate AI into various aspects of our offerings,” Ratzon explains. “Our goal is to boost attack sophistication and orchestration, ensuring that our solutions remain sharp, intelligent, and responsive to emerging threats.”
Pentera recognizes the necessity of delivering tailored insights to various business leaders; hence its AI-driven reporting will accommodate the unique linguistic needs of different stakeholders, providing technical depth for CISOs and high-level overviews for CEOs. Once operating in a relatively uncontested market, Pentera now faces increased competition from firms such as AttackIQ, Cymulate, and XM Cyber as the importance of cybersecurity validation has soared.
“A CIO will receive alerts that are framed in their perspective,” Ratzon articulated. “In contrast, a CEO will obtain a report that simplifies the complexities, offering a digestible view devoid of technical jargon.”
Pentera aims to achieve $100 million in revenue by the close of 2025, while seeking to uphold a customer retention rate exceeding 90%. The company intends to refine its sales-to-support staff ratio for sustainable growth and implement a biweekly update cycle to heighten cybersecurity effectiveness. With a client base of 1,100, Ratzon affirms that customer feedback will be instrumental in guiding product evolution.
“There is a growing acknowledgment that Pentera is on track to become the consolidator of the market,” Ratzon stated, asserting his belief in the company’s leadership role in cybersecurity validation.
